PTI Blog Hop...Bow Ties

Gotcha, LOL!!
My project for today's PTI blog hop has nothing to do with Bow Ties, I have made ornaments out of recycled card stock and paper products that now hang on silver cord from a bow tied at the top of my popcorn bag.
Nichole's challenge this month was to recycle anything from Christmas but the end project was not to look like a Christmas project. I took scraps of Pure Poppy, Kraft and Sweet Blush PTI card stock and made paper pulp...directions found below.

Supplies...
card stock scraps
water
bucket
blender
candy mold
Dremel tool
cording
ribbon
Coated Popcorn (directions found below)
Food storage bag
Pail
Adhesive Vinyl
Cricut

Handmade paper hearts directions...
Shred left over card stock pieces or wrapping paper
Place into a container with two cups of hot water and let set overnight
Pour paper and water mixture into the blender and mix
Take your paper pulp and squeeze out some of the water in your hand and press into candy molds
Let air dry, my molds dried in an afternoon over a heat register
Unmold
Dremel a hole into the top of your molded paper
String with cord or ribbon
Hang from a bow on top of a gift package

other uses...
3D card and scrapbooking image
Necklace
Tree Ornaments
Door Knob Hangers

What can you use them for, I would love to hear your ideas!

Coated popcorn directions...
Air Pop 12 Cups of Popcorn
Sort out the kernels
In a sauce pot heat 2 cups sugar with 2 cups light corn syrup
add 2 T of butter and bring to a boil
add 1 package of Jello (color and flavoring of choice)
Boil for three minutes on med high heat
Pour over popcorn, mixing well
Pour popcorn onto a buttered baking sheet
Bake in a 200* oven for 10 minutes
Flip popcorn out onto wax paper to cool
Break into pieces and store in an air tight bag or container

Merry Christmas!

Matthew 2:9-11
...and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

Cooking it up...

The past couple of days we have been super busy in the kitchen. There is paper in the blender, soap in the microwave, Vaseline on the stove and so on...DH is starting to go bug eyed and wants his kitchen back. My friend Chris shared her Cheese Soup recipe with me a few weeks ago so for the past two blizzard weekends it has become our Saturday lunch menu as we heat up the kitchen with Christmas goodies. I have to see if I can get her to post it for you. I have a funny story about cheese soup my Niece and Nephew are going to love this...

My Sister and I were living and working in SF at the time and our Nice and Nephew were over often for visits. One weekend we decided to make cheese soup so we gathered up a bunch of different types of cheese and put them in the crock pot. We ended up with a gloppy mass with grease floating on the top of the pot. They laughed so hard I thought they were going to pass out, 'til this day they don't let us live it down. So guess what is showing up in their mail box soon...yep a cheese soup RECIPE and it is a good one. Thanks Chris!

So almost everything is complete and by the end of the afternoon today my DH will indeed have his Kitchen back. He is not a sweet eater so I can't even offer him some goodies to take away some of his pain. Opposites clearly do attract every tooth in my mouth is a sweet tooth.

Merry Christmas EVE!

Prison Fudge

Every year when we were going to St. John's Lutheran Church in SF at Christmas time we made Fudge for the prison inmates at the SD penitentiary. The recipe had to be made according to certain directions and also had to be packaged precisely as laid out in the directions. I make it for our home and friends now it is a simple recipe and tastes so very YUMMY! This year I put in some peppermint chips (they melted very easily) and them placed about 1/4 of the bag on top of the fudge after pouring it in the pan.

4 1/2 Cups Sugar
1/2 lb. Butter
1-12 oz can of evaporated milk
1 TBL Vanilla

Bring to a boil, boil exactly 11 minutes stirring constantly. Take off heat and add...

2 Cups small marshmallows
1 Cup Chopped Nuts
1 & 1/2 bags of Chocolate Chips

Beat 'til smooth, Pour into a well-buttered 9 by 13 pan and cool at room temperature. Cut into 24 pcs.

Merry Christmas R

I have my Niece's CHRISTmas gift all finished and wrapped up. Here is what the first photo shows you...
Tall can is recycled drink mix container and holds 4 colors of playdough and cutters.
Jug is recycled Container and holds Shower Gel.
Bottle was purchased at Michales and has hand and body lotion.
Small bottle is recycled hand sanitizer bottle that holds body glitter gel.
Two bars of handmade soap.
Tow pots of lip gloss Chocolate and peppermint.
Christmas Tree Ornament.

I have to tell you our reasons behind making gifts this year. We wanted to teach our Children the Christmas is not about getting it is in the spirit of Giving. And the main reason we celebrate Christmas is the Birth of Jesus. With the economy the way it is and my craft room piled high with products (that one is for you Dad, my Dad was shocked at all I had when he came to visit before heading south) it was decided a group effort of time and love was going to create the gifts this year. It has been a great ride working with all three of our kids making projects and teaching them the basics. My DH just scratches his head and wonders when he will have the kitchen back to normal.
Now I need to finish up gifts for the boys. I have the playdough made, do you have anymore suggestions for me. (They range in age from 3 to 8.)

A forest of trees...

Want to take a look at some beautiful Christmas trees. This lady has over 30 theme trees in her home, yikes our little one would love that.

My faves were the lavender luxury and the nativity tree. Jan I think you would love some of the ornaments on the Feliz navidad tree, they are cute. Julie, you will have to look at them for the festival of trees there could be something there you would like to CASE. Have fun...

God Loves a Cheerful Giver/soap crafting

This year my husband and I decided that we were not going to spend any money on CHRISTMAS, how were we to get this done? Every gift, every card, sweet treat and decoration has been handmade by myself and our children. It has been so much fun working with the girls seeing them get excited about what they have made and talking about how much the recipient is going to enjoy their gift.
**One note we did end up purchasing some Christmas candy, I burnt up my mixer making fudge and was not able to complete what items were left on my list.**

It is funny how my Nice and Nephews ask there parents when the next time is that I will be coming over. Know what they are looking forward to? Handmade soap, they have run out and are in their own way requesting more. It is so funny! These kids have every toy, get almost everything they ask for and in the end what they want from Aunt Sara is more Soap for bath time. (I love it!) That is truly what makes giving this time of year such a joy.

This is the day!

This was a challenge card you were to just use black and white (a splash of color if you wanted), so I had to use my all time fave color combo to complete this challenge. The sentiment is also one of my favorite stamps to use from Gingerbread stamps right here in SD. To get the look of the black on the white swirls I flipped over the embossing and took a sponge with black ink to the opposite side of the paper.

Here is one of my all time fave Christian ROCK sounds of the 80's
Petra Grave Robber
The title of the post and Name of the SU set used was enough to have this scripture stick out in my mind all day today. I am sure most of you are familiar with it, one passage was written to explain the death of the human body, this is the SEASON to CELEBRATE the BIRTH of JESUS our saviour the one who will carry our spirit that will never die if you believe in JESUS. My husband is always making fun of my music choices when I make a video CD on almost every one I put Amazing Grace my Chains are Gone, I just love that song. All he says is why do you have a funeral song on the photo CD? I answer him by saying to me it is not a funeral song it is a song showing that you believe in Jesus and have been set free...unending love "Amazing Grace". How can that be just a funeral song??
Ecclesiastes 3:1-18

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted
a time to kill, and a time to heal
a time to break down, and a time to build up
a time to weep, and a time to laugh
a time to mourn, and a time to dance
a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing
a time to seek, and a time to lose
a time to keep, and a time to throw away
a time to tear, and a time to sew
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak
a time to love, and a time to hate

Psalm 4:4-8
In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord. Many are asking, who can show us any good? Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord. You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O lord, make me dwell in safety.

I had to take time out last night from my Anger, I was so mad at our Children's School I could not even think. The bus refused to start up in the cold of the AM so a Suburban was brought to town to take the kids into school. All of the children in town were piled into the suburban not seat belted in and sitting on laps. I have made many phone calls this PM and tomorrow is another day to voice my opinion of what happened to anyone at the school who needs to know this happened. I was told some decisions made in haste are not always the right decisions, YA THINK? Tonight as I go to sleep I have to remember to "search my heart and be silent" just so I can get some rest. However, when my children's safety is on the line it is going to be hard to keep silent...

With the weekend weather some crafty KITCHEN goodies were called for. Thanks for the help and determination of our older girls and the (youngest taste tester) together we were able to create some CHRISTmas goodies. With my physical problems I struggle daily just to remail upright let alone take on the task of baking for our family. I get much help from our girls and my DH and for that I am grateful, I am still very happy to lend my direction, LOL!! Here is a devotion from my Mom's Devotional bible NIV...

The Potato and the Egg
Some folks are like eggs when it comes to suffering. Like eggs, they go into the hot water of trouble and come out hard. Other people are like potatoes. Potatoes drop into the heat and are softened through boiling. How do we respond to suffering? Like an egg or a potato? do we become hard or are we softened trough the hot water of trouble?

Suffering is never God's first choice for us. Gut when we are touched by the pain of our world, through self-inflicted wounds or wounds inflicted by another, God wishes to save us from the harm of pain and even bring us benefits for the pain.

The catch is, we must submit ourselves to God as we suffer in order to benefit from it. If we're to gain form our pain, we must be more like a potato then an egg.

What will we do with suffering when it comes our way?

Put CHRIST back in CHRISTmas in 2008
Romans 5: 1-5

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Towel Angel

Directions and product list found {here}

Our Daughters made these at Church a couple of years ago. What a great way to give a CHRISTmas gift for the kitchen.

**The photo above is made differently then the one you will find directions for.** My thinking is that the Sunday School teachers adapted this for younger children to complete with success. For hers they used felt for the wings and arms where you would use a kitchen cloth and pot holder. For assembly they used pipe cleaners where you would be using ribbon. Share some festive moments with your kids or grand kids and give the towel angel a try this year.

The Best CHRISTmas Gift ever...

The mailman had delivered some swap packages I was expecting and he also handed me another surprise box from Jen it was like Santa had knocked at my door. To my great joy she had sent a beautiful Nativity set for our family. How blessed I am to have such a wonderful friend, thank you!

A few years ago my Sister gave me these wooden trays she purchased at Michaels. The have been sitting around collecting dust, now I have figured out what to make with them. I was inspired by a project our DD had in school to make a Diorama of the Jungle eco system. My Diorama is of the Nativity and I used the wooden tray to make the present and it is wrapped in a golden bow.

Goodie Goodie Gum Drops

Are these not the cutest topiary trees for the Christmas season, I love to make them and children love to see and eat them. Here is how they are made...

Gum Drop Topiary Tutorial

Product list...
Clay Pot
Acrylic Paints **two colors I used red and white**
Cracking medium
paint brushes
faster plaster
large candy cane **be sure when shopping for them you get the ones that are not cracked or broken, this can be a major task at some stores especially this close to Christmas. **
Foam Balls
tooth picks
Gum Drops
ribbon

Tutorial...
Clean clay pot with soap and water, let dry.
Paint on your light paint color, let dry.
Paint on your cracking medium per directions on bottle.
Paint on your top color, let dry.
**let you pot dry for a few days, clay pots will absorb the moisture of the paint and it takes a couple of days for the pot to completely cure**
Mix up your faster plaster per directions.
Tape a penny over the outside bottom hole of your pot.
Fill your pot 1/3 full of your plaster.
**let you pot cure once again for a couple of days same applies with the plaster as it did with the paint.**
Cut one of your foam balls in half.
Place the cut ball flat side up inside of your pot.
Take your wrapper off of your candy cane and place the cane into the foam.
Take your top foam ball and mark your hole for your cane, carve out with a knife.
Place ball on top of your cane to make sure you get a tight fit then remove the ball.
Break toothpicks in half.
Place one gum drop onto the broken side of the toothpick.
Pace your toothpick into the foam, random placement looks best.
When your ball is full place it on top of your candy cane.
Tie a bow at the bottom of the Ball.
Cover bottom of ball in the pot with extra gum drops.

Put CHRIST back in CHRISTmas in 2008...
Meaning of the Candy cane from {Noel...}

The use of candy canes on Christmas trees made its way to America by the 1800’s, however during this time they were still pure white. They are represented this way on Christmas cards made before 1900, and it is not until the early 20th century that they appear with their familiar red stripes.

Many people have given religious meaning to the shape and form of the candy cane. It is said that its shape is like the letter “J” in Jesus’ name. It is also in the shape of the shepherds’ crook, symbolic of how Jesus, like the “Good Shepherd” watches over his children like little lambs. It is a hard candy, solid like a “rock”, the foundation of the Church. The flavor of peppermint is similar to another member of the mint family, hyssop. In the Old Testament hyssop was used for purification and sacrifice, and this is said to symbolize the purity of Jesus and the sacrifice he made.

Some say the white of the candy cane represents the purity of Jesus and his virgin birth. The bold red stripe represents God’s love. The three fine stripes are said by some to represent the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Others say they represent the blood spilled at the beating Jesus received at the hands of the Roman soldiers.

From its plain early beginnings to its familiar shape and color of today, the candy cane is a symbol of Christmas and a reminder of the meaning of the holiday.

Stir & Sip...Enjoy!

Above is my second Recipe for the PTI round 10 swap. I decided to do my favorite Coffee drink and make use of the Warm Happiness stamp set. When I worked for Hot Stuff Foods in the Vending and Research departments I had access daily to the best coffee equipment and flavorings that are available. In R&D we played along with different flavoring syrups and toppings but my Fave has always been plain vanilla. The best part is you can get the store bought treat in your home by following the recipe posted. (Click on the photo to enlarge.) Torani brand is available around here in the Midwest and you can also take this link to their web page {Torani, these syrups will make great additions to any CHRISTmas list.

Put CHRIST back in CHRISTmas

Matthew 1:22-25
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel - which means, "God with us." When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Merry Christmas!

Cricut Ornament

I have been having a great time making some coaster Christmas ornaments. My Sister was able to pick up some new Cricut cartridges over the shopping weekend and this reindeer is from Doodle Charms. I thought for sure she would want the Cricut back now in her kindness said I could keep it longer, how great is that! Thank you Sis :)

This ornament was made with the girls in mind, especially our little one she loved it the most. The past few years at our Family Christmas with my Brother, and Sister's families we exchange gifts only with the kids. They have a wild time opening all of the beautiful packages.

Put CHRIST in CHRISTMAS
Matthew 1:18-21
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, be cause what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
Merry CHRISTmas!

December Journal Album

I was inspired by Ali Edwards you can find her work {Here}
My friend Chris has also made a journal you can find it {here}.

Dec 01.2008
Wise Men still seek Him. (stamp sentiment from Papertrey Ink.)
"Christmas for the past couple of years keeps Meaning less and less to me. This year I am setting out to find the true "Joy" of CHRISTmas."

What I mean by this journal entry is that CHRISTmas for me personally has become a STRESS filled event in these areas...

1)baking
2)gift giving
3)programs
4)decorating
5)family budget

I had totally lost sight of it's true meaning in the process of all the above stress. Last year we never even put up or big tree, and instead of giving gifts to the girls we stayed in a water park hotel and enjoyed the pool. This year it is my goal to find "CHRISTmas" back and celebrate the birth of Christ and to prepare myself for his triumphant return. To relax and enjoy the Season with my Family and make happy memories of the season.
