National Limerick Day

Re-posting from May 12 2011
This is the post that went missing from the 12th to the 17th while Blogger had an aneurysm!  The comments are still lost!  I have held onto it until now I was dealing with what happened during its absence...
I was trying to get in contact with my HS English teacher to thank her for my love of literature. (Notice I said literature and not English as a reader of my blog you know I find any type of structure confining.) I am sure some of you remember the Flash Gordon Paper.  OMGoodness, it made her laugh Hysterically;)
In the process I learned that my Friend (the teachers daughter) had lost her 17 year old son.
Is it not amazing how God works and knits things like a Limerick day post back to my friend in her darkest hour.  As of yet I have to send a card or give her a call.  I am lucky, our girls were permitted more time in this world when her son was not.  I know how close we were I just can't imagine the crushing feeling of burying your child.  A child one week short of graduating HS.
A child full of vim and vigor just as his mother.
So God Bless you my Friend and I am keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Remember to tell the people you love that you love them EVERYDAY.  Because no one knows when your last day will be.
So here it is again if you missed it....
Celebrate National Limerick Day!
I love this holiday it is obvious if you know me or have the pleasure of living with me!  My kids laugh hysterically when I  am in a rhyming mood.
Don't you ever let go and say what comes to mind?  Try it!  You will be amazed.

If you are submitting to PaperCrafts Magazine the have an open submission call for a Card a Day 2012.
I printed off a list of my favorite days I wanted to work with I have submitted some but others are just hanging around.  This is one of those creations...

I printed off the sentiment in Word because I am having issues with my computer!  I plan on getting some word art in photoshop up for grabs as soon as I get this figured out;)

Here is a quick one Jessica and I made up...

There is a girl named Jesse
Her room is very Messy
She did not pick up her shoes
now she suffers the one shoe blues
and her Momma is a bit testy.

My Minds Eye Stella and Rose collection dp and ribbon

Okay, the MRI scan results are back on my right knee.  Not what the Dr. was expecting.
What can I say it is ME!
In short my problems are being caused by degeneration, arthritis and my body sending too much fluid to heal the area.  This fluid is getting trapped in the back of the knee were the situation above has done damage and is collecting making movement of my knee difficult and painful.  There is a name for it but I am not going to look it up cause if I do I certainly will have earned a Doctorate Degree!  So I can deal with it or go get an injection directly into the knee cap.  I went and looked it up anyhow and the term is EFFUSION.  Now you can call me Dr. Sara Paschal!   I don't know what the worst of the two evils are at this point.  I know in the past I have different results with injections.  Have been told the more of them you get the less they work.
So no surgery is needed...that is a good thing.
However to chalk up one more body part to degenerative disease does not make me one bit happy.

Happy Stamp Day.  God Bless.

Memorial Day Weekend

Below you see our kitchen table center piece the girls and I made for the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.  We usually travel this time of year.  However, my knee and back are keeping us close to home this weekend.  Jessica is upset, she loves visiting the Zoo in Omaha.  Fact is she has her suitcase packed and ready for summer vacation.
So to ease into the change we worked on this to remind the girls why this holiday has come to be.

The wall art is from a previous post {HERE}it is a German Meal Prayer
Come Lord Jesus be our Guest let these gifts to us be blessed.
I altered a frame for each photo, one will be going to each kiddo for their rooms.

To my knowledge we do not have a Military Member of our family that has died in battle.  However, there is a long list of enlisted members.
Below is one of my Favorite photos in our collection.  It is of my Grandfather Vernnie Smith.  I love everything about this pic!  From the fashion, the love on Grandpa's face and the tad mysterious glance of Grandma Alpha Skovly Smith.

Here is my Daddy Charles Tieszen.  He is a Korean War Veteran.
Does not talk much about his time in the service.  The pics we have speak for him.  I love and cherish these photos also.  Dad is going to be 80 in January and acts as if he is 20!

Below is my Beloved DH Jesse Paschal.  Served in the Army late 80's early 90's.  He recently was granted coverage through the VA for his illness.  Such a blessing.
So nice to sleep at night knowing my DH is covered.

May God Bless our Country and the World.  Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

Cupcake Pedestal Floral Frenzy

Floral Frenzy meets Beautiful Blooms.
**For cupcake pedestal directions please see previous post**
Exception being I used the P for PaperTrey for the cupcake stand.
I am going to go back and doll it up more I thought hanging flowers in the P cut out would be cute or beads?

May is the month when many flowers finally go into full bloom after a long winter's sleep.  For the blog
hop this month we want to see your favorite take on flowers.  You can stamp backgrounds, create
custom floral embellishments, showcase unique flower center additions (buttons, rhinestones, beads,
etc...), flowers die-cut from different materials (like fabric, felt, vellum, etc...) or anything else you can
dream up!  We are looking forward to seeing all of your amazing creations!

If you visit here often you know I can do flowers.  They are my most favorite crafty project to work on.  For today's challenge I broke out PTI's Beautiful Blooms DP and Floral Frenzy Stamp set.
All products used are PTI except Cricut Cindy Loo Cartridge and Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.  This is how I created the cupcake wrapper and pedestal.

Happy Stamp Day.  God Bless.

I Can't STAND It!

Really I can't stand it this is so darn cute and a different way to show off your cupcakes. Let them stand out, raise them up, show them off.   Put upon a pedestal.   You see the cupcake wrappers and Pics all over the place these days.  However, I have only seen one version of a paper cupcake pedestal and that one does not serve its purpose well.  I Wanted to make it frilly and sturdy at the same time so this is the final version...

Here is how I did this version using My Cricut Expression, the Storybook Cartridge, Design Studio,  Pure Poppy Cardstock and dp from Doodlebug Designs Berry Blue...
The J in Plantin School Book works well also.  I think if you look through your cartridges you will find many images that will work.

Pick your image
Draw it out to the size you want this makes it easy to change heights on some
Next copy and paste the image check weld and flip
move the image over so it welds nice with the first piece
MAKE SURE YOU CLICK WELD ON BOTH IMAGES AND FLIP ONE OF THEM
Use a scissors to cut up the center half way to the top
Use a scissors to cut down the center half way to the bottom

**You will need to cut twice on heavy weight cardstock**
two layers of heavy weight cardstock like PTI is all I found to work WELL and will hold the weight of a cupcake with out toppling over.
You will need to cut once for Dp
Use a good adhesive to layer your two cardstock pieces
Place your DP cuts on both sides of your layered cardstock
Connect at the cuts
Glue on your top
For mine I used a Doily and a Marvy Scallop Circle
Place your cupcake

Bonus:
Plate idea from my Sister Julie
Cut circle in matching DP
Sandwich between two clear plastic plates
Use glue dots to adhere the plates.
Save them, take apart and use them again switching out the dp to match your table setting.

Click here to download the following template...
This is where I started this version does not work well for what I was looking for.  Possibly for MINI muffins or MINI cupcakes then I still would not do it for a child's party.

Happy Stamp Day.  God Bless.

Cooking Mama

Liz has a favorite game for her DS it is Cooking Mama and she has her eyes on Crafting Mama.
Girl after my  heart for sure;)
This summer we are turning her fun and games into REALITY.  She will be creating our favorite foods and scrapping them for the future.  When my Mother Died I really missed her in the kitchen.  I was married and a new Mom and I needed to know her secrets.  My Dad and his wife Jan must have gotten tired of my phone calls Mom's recipe for this and that and how she did this etc.  Then for Christmas Jan gave  us kids a cookbook with my Mom's recipes the most wonderful gift ever

Here is Elizabeth's Chinese Chicken Plated.  Looks YUMMY!

Here is the Scrapbook Recipe page for the Chinese Chicken.  Hey, I found a use for Cricut Pagoda.  YES!  Love the bowl and chopsticks just as YUMMY as the dish;)

We are using a template in Works for the recipe that we we can print more off as needed.  Click on the pic to enlarge for your copy.
Happy Stamp Day.  God Bless.

Honeycomb Happily Ever After

I love this, and the idea is a bit out of the box.  The concept has not caught fire yet in the craft industry.  Let's see if we can change that;)
Now this road is not easy, this type of decoration is getting difficult at best to find.
I did stumble upon one pre-made Honeycomb wedding bell in white at our local party store.
I used the smallest version in this card.
I had plans to make my own Honeycomb design just have not had the time as of yet.  There is a post below that will show you how to create your own pumpkin.

Some light reading for you on the subject of Honeycomb paper.

3D pumpkin Card

Honeycomb Cinderella Carriage

You can do this yourself.  Purchase a pre-made Honeycomb ball at your local party store.  Cut a Cinderella Carriage from Cricut Cartridge Happily Ever After and Mount it as you see above.

Origional photo is from Martha Stewart Crafts
So I would love to hear your comments.  And please if you have more links that you love on Honeycomb 3D cards please leave that also I would love to see it;)

A side note on Happily Ever After
This week a friend of mine from Lennox laid her 17 year old son to rest on Friday.  My heart is broken for her and the family.  I can't imagine the loss of a child, I just can't.
We came close on August 16 2010 when our oldest and middle child were involved in a rollover ejection accident.  This road has been extremely stressful and difficult to deal with and make amends to.
The advice I can give is this.
God never makes a promise to us that becoming a parent is going to be a Happily Ever After let alone easy.

After the Accident Donna had many Questions for her Momma.  This was one that still stands out for me today.  "Mom do young children who have not been baptized go to heaven?"
In fact I had this answer for her.
YES, YES and YES!
and this is why...
Genesis 33:5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.

Matthew 19:13-14 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Our Children are not in fact ours.  They are God's Children GRACIOUSLY given to us by God.  We are to enter into his kingdom as children of God!  Since babies and young Children are not in control of their minds and hearts God is they are automatically given the Grace and Mercy from their Father and the Gates of Heaven are open to them.

This is where some religions depart on this topic.  In some beliefs to baptize an infant is the norm.  In some religions babies are in fact not baptized.  Baptism occurs when the child is older and have made their own decision on God.
For me I have done both.  I was baptized as an infant.  Thank you Mom and Dad for my precious gift.
I also rededicated myself to the Lord when I was in High School after completing Catechism in the Reformed Church Of America.

Now for my Own children this is what we have done...
Donna was dedicated as a child in the beliefs of Mennonite Religion.
She made the decision to be baptized as a knowing Christian by immersion into the Reformed faith.

Liz did the same as her sister, we did not dedicate her as a child.

Jessica has not been dedicated or baptized at this point.  Yet, she will be the first one to openly tell you of her love for Jesus because that is how she lives her God Given Life.  That is what she has been taught by hear family as God has instructed.

I do to this day as I have done from the beginning I bless my own children by placing the sign of the cross on their for heads and saying a prayer for them.  I did this most when they were ill.  I so go back to the accident on this day because the Sheriff at the scene of the accident did not allow me access to Donna.  (I understand why that my presence was giving Donna more stress.  See all she was worried about was the fact I was there and I was going to be ANGRY at what she had done.
(The total opposite is true if you are a loving God Fearing Parent.)
You are not interested in the vehicle condition only the condition of your child.
I understand a 15 year old girl does not have this thinking pattern developed yet.

I can see now Months later why this has happened to our God Loving Fearing Family.  I can see the change in myself.  I can see the Change in Our Daughters.  I can see a change in their friends this effected.
This situation actually physically brought God into my life.
I have told you in the past he was there beside me I was talking to him as I walked the halls of Sanford Children's.  I am sure the security guards watching me on the cameras thought that crazy lady has flipped a lid and is walking and talking to herself.  Indeed I was not! God was walking with me and I was talking to him!

Does not mean I don't  scream and shout  at my Lord out of despair.  Does not mean I can't question his actions and pray for some sort of answer.  Does not mean I can't ask him why our children, why our children?  Why not ME?
Take the burden from the children!  Take me!
When you are looking at the path through the raw pain and despair of the moment.  It is difficult to see God's plan very hard to keep on the path of righteousness.

Okay, If you wish to learn more about this journey you can look up past posts starting back on
August 16th 2010.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

If you wish to read the Obituary for this young Child of My childhood Friend and
Child of God you can take this link...

I have not run into my friend much after Graduation.  Does not mean I don't think of her or her family.  The fact is on May 12th I was looking up limericks for limerick day and thoughts of her came back to me.  See her Mother was a Teacher for the Lennox School System.  Mrs. Wells;)  I loved her as a teacher and was looking to thank her for implanting the love of all things Literature in my life. If you were lucky enough to be in a class with me you can most likely remember I had her LOL at one of my writings.  She makes the most awesome Orange Julius I drool over yet this day.
Only days later did I learn from a friend what had occurred earlier in the week.
And after Bloggers "freak out" this week the post that is missing is my Limerick day post.  HMMM?
See how God works.  I think he is a bit loony at times and his humor is more wicked than my own.
May God Bless you my Friend and I lift your family up in prayer.

Remember God does not make any promise of a Happily Ever After.  God Bless.

Moxie Fab Chevron Challenge

The background on my card was from Cath's post it was the pic of chevron fabric that I played with a bit to make a background.  The stamp is from...you guessed it...We R Memory Keepers Merry January Collection.  Sentiment and cardstock are  PTI.  I even broke out the airbrush for this beauty.  Thought I had better use it before DH claims it because it has been collecting dust in my world as of late.

Take Note...Only in MY World!

Easel style post it note and pencil cup...
Using Merry January from We R Memory Keepers.
The Pencil cup portion is made with 4" coasters so the final dimension ends up being
4" by 2" by 4"
I finished off the inside with true black cardstock so pen marks etc would not show.
Covered a few pencils, pens and clips with dp.

View from the back...

Side one cork with rolled flower push pins...

Side 2 magnetic...

Okay, so DH and I were driving home the other day and I said I needed a "safe place".  Hold it!  I can't lock myself in the house the toilet flusher handle bites.  I can't lock myself out of the house the world is too crazy.  There is no SAFE PLACE!

So here is what I did last week.  I tore my ACL and some cartilage in my right knee.  I know, I am special;)  When things get done around here the are done well!  Started on Friday we went out to lunch I ended up slipping on a stupid suction cup that found its way off the door to the floor.  I did not completely fall but I injured my toenail and wrecked my pedi and that alone had me upset!  On Saturday  DH and I went to the Storm game (another great one)!  9-0  HELLO...GO STORM! Find out more on the Sioux Falls Storm here.  Then we went to leave I must have finished a step just a bit wrong and all of a sudden a loud disturbing noise and I could no longer put weight on my right leg.  After 3 hours waiting in the ER they finally got me in and determined my injury.  I was able to get in on Tuesday with the specialist Donna has seen for years he right away just by moving my joint around what was up.
Another wait for the MRI....I will let you know as soon as I know more.
I am usually not this interesting wish I could return to that status!

Happy Stamp Day.  God Bless.

Flat Circles..."Grind My Gears"

If you are a fan of Family Guy like myself you would have seen the episode totally devoted to Peter and what grinds his gears.

I have one really big design flaw that grinds my gears!  Here it is...flat top circle cards.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE jump on the bandwagon to stop the madness.

Here is my lacy circle creation doesn't she look beautiful.  Won't find a flat top here.

We don't embrace other types of flats.
No possible way would some of you drink a flat beer....
The flat world theory did not last long....

A flat tire lasts only as long as it takes to change it....

I just had to.  You are laughing I know it.  Flat circles don't look right do they?
So lets put an end to flat top circle cards.  Give me a rest this gear grinding is tough work.

Here is the simple solution
Punch
or
Die Cut
TWO complete circles
The back circle score 1/4" from the top
Apply adhesive to this 1/4" area
Place the front circle on top, line it up and adhere
Now you have the fold of your card hidden on the back.

Oh Yeah.  I almost forgot.  Kira, this flat can be fixed also!

;)

Happy Stamp Day.
God Bless America and the World.

Triple Strand Bracelet with Matching Earrings

Okay, isn't this set a beauty?  I LOVE IT.  Was going to be a gift but I love it so much I have decided to gift it to  myself.
Do you know what is so very special about this little gem?

The large beads are made from PAPER yes I used W R Memory Keepers Merry January 12 by 12 dp
to make these beads.  They are strung on a wire with crystals.  The triple chain was a huge challenge I  sat it aside and walked away on a few occasions.  I loved it so much I kept going back and giving it another try.

Thanks to my Sister for a huge donation of beading supplies the girls and I have been stringing crazy the past few weeks.  We have some gifts ready for your stash as well;)

Here is a quick video on making paper beads.  I did the later technique and when finished I coated the paper beads with diamond Glaze and let dry.

If you live in my area R Scrapbook store does have this collection in stock;)

Happy Stamp Day.

Grate Tags

Edited to place my opinion scroll to the bottom of this post to see...

A little bit puny today;)  I was playing off a creation by Betsy Veldman in PaperCrafts 350 Cards and Gifts issue on sale now.

I came across this cheese grater with a storage container attached made by
Betty Crocker

My first thought was of Christmas cookies  cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger and it would be great to grate the spices fresh for my Grandma's Ginger Snaps.

The tags are then for cookie trays to be shared with Family and Friends.

The large tag on the grate is reversible on the back the ginger snap recipe can be found.
I will share it below for you;)  is it a grate Monday or what?

Grandma Skovly's Ginger Snaps

1/3 C vegetable shortening
1 C light brown sugar
1 1/2 C molasses
2/3 C water
6 C flour
2 t baking soda
1 t salt
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 t nutmeg
1/4 t ginger

Beat shortening, brown sugar and molasses until creamy.
Add water. Sift dry ingredients and add to batter.
1/3 at a time.
Beat thoroughly.
If dough is sticky add a little more flour.  Roll out to 1/4" thick with a rolling pin.
Mold into holiday shapes with hands or use cookie cutters.
Bake on lightly greased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for about 10 min.

All items for the individual tags are PTI except the snowflake brads from MM, felt from Hobby Lobby and nestabilites lacy circles.
Sentiment on large tag is computer generated script.

Caution Readers My opinion is expressed below....

By now you have heard that Bin Laden has been killed by US special forces.  As parts of the world CELEBRATE the DEATH of this MAN I ask myself...Where is the love?

My Friend Leilani stated this on FB this AM...
From my Friend Leilani's wall...
We are all connected...the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful...so when we judge another, we are judging ourselves. If we have judged someone as unworthy and evil and celebrate the loss of their life, what then are we saying about ourselves?

This is where I find myself having difficulty.  On the news all you see are people celebrating in the streets the death of a MAN.    That is where my problem lives.  I have not forgotten what this man has done. The pure EVIL he has unleashed.  I have not forgotten our freedoms that have been altered by the acts and teachings of this man.  God himself tells us of false prophets, I believe this Man was one.
I believe the celebratory manners of this country are inciting more violence and hate. Stirring the pot so to speak that is boiling over.   Would it not be GOD'S  job to Judge this MAN not ours?  Is it not GOD'S job to seek vengeance for his injustice not ours?
Let us let GOD do his job.  Let us find the LOVE for humanity that he tells us to have.

Have you prayed for the soul of this MAN?  I have.
Have you  prayed for all the lives affected by this MAN?  I have!
I pray daily for God's blessings on our country and for the safety of all fighting men and women around the world.
I pray for our world our one and only world as it continues to spin out of control and away from GOD's teachings.

This situation is a huge test for everyone from God himself.
What are you going to do?
Study your bible for your final exam?
Or copy off your neighbor who does not know the answers to God's teachings?

Practice your faith, let your light shine for the world to see your love for God and God's love for the WORLD (his creation) and for EVERYONE and EVERYTHING under his Heaven who he has blessed with his AMAZING GRACE.

"Where Is The Love?"
by the Black Eyed Peas
I have the youtube video for my featured video this week below are the lyrics to the song.
What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA fightin'
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates

Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother

A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love, the love, the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
Now ask yourself

Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love?

Sing wit me y'all:
One world, one world (We only got)
One world, one world (That's all we got)
One world, one world
And something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit the wo-wo-world, yeah
We only got
(One world, one world)
That's all we got
(One world, one world)

Happy Stamp Day make it a GRATE one.

May God Bless our Country and the World.
