Countdown Day 7... Getting Buggy

Here is a snap shot of our Miracle DD this week this photo was taken by our oldest DD. (You can read my previous post to find out more...)

This challenge Jen's 30/30 challenge has been difficult to say the least one of the harder things I have had to do. I am on a downhill slide now only 6 more days to go. I have started to make up a list of things envelopes, adhesive and postage are at the top of that list. To make this card I resorted to Mod Podge and a toothpick, LOL!! If I was not in the challenge I would have used my Xyron sticker maker or Tombo Multi liquid adhesive to place the Cricut images. (For those who need a quick refresher I ran out of my fave adhesives half way through the challenge.)

My Sister has let me keep the Cricut since she was here last and I think I am catching on. I just saw this week that the Beyond Birthday cartridge she has makes these cute window cards either rectangle or oval. This is the largest square card the original cutter mat can make it measures 3 3/4" square and it will also cut a matching envie. I wanted to play around more but I need to replace the mats they are no longer sticky have to wait 6 more days otherwise it is just a waste of card stock. I have found a tip to make the mat last longer, they say to spray the mat with removable adhesive.

countdown day 8 Rubbed the wrong way...

First before I chat about my card I have to tell you about My Tuesday, my very devastating yet wonderful Tuesday.

Started out great but, then some dark cloud of crap started to hover over me. The neighbor boy came over and asked to go swimming in the process of excitement he stepped on my glasses. My $500 glasses that are no longer under warranty, that I absolutely adore that are now damaged goods.

Next, I was outside so long I got behind on getting supper started so when I came in I reached for the pressure cooker. Got the chicken in it and started it cooking in the meantime Little J was in the kitchen by me looking at the frogs her sister caught for her and I was sorting my craft magazines on the kitchen table. All of a sudden the pressure cooker launches off the stove, hits the ceiling and lands a foot away from Little J. (No safety valves released, the lid seal let go and the steam coming out the lid launched the pot and caused hot water mixed now with chicken fat to spray all over little J, and the kitchen. I rushed her to the bathtub and just put her in and started running cool water to get the mess off of her. She was red in spots but she never was burned. How is that for a blessing from God right under my nose. She could have been seriously injured by the flying pot first off and by the hot liquid next and neither happened. The only damage was to the craft magazines I was sorting out on the table.

Yep, the frogs were set free in the incident to roam our house, we finally got them all rounded up before it was time for bed. My glasses are damaged but Little J was not injured so that is my devastating yet wonderful Tuesday. And the lesson learned is that God lets little things happen daily to show his greatness we just have to be open to seeing them. (That is what I learned anyhow from Tuesday.)

So I may have been rubbed the wrong way on Tuesday but I sure love the look of the cards I created. This is what I have resorted to since my supply of adhesive is getting thinner by the day. (Less layers and rub-on's.)

Product list...
SU SAB rub-on's
SU Kraft Card Stock
SU Burgundy card stock
For adhesive I used my Glue Dots

30/30 Challenge Countdown Day 9...

This project counted as day 9 in my countdown to complete Jen's 30/30 challenge.

The most amazing thing happened to me on Monday that it left me crying in disbelief. And it was such a good, wonderful and kind gesture. On Splitcoast (SCS) there is a user forum called WRAK (Wish Random Act of Kindness) where you full fill other users wishes for stamped images, card stock and more. In the process for each wish you grant you get to make a wish. I love granting wishes and in one of my wish requests I asked for stamped images from PaperTreys Anniversary Set. Not only did someone grant me this wish but virtualyvonne on SCS sent me PTI's Anniversary set. This set was a gift from PTI sent to customers that purchased twelve PTI stamp sets last year as a thank you for your business incentive.

Thank you YAVONNE!
The card you see above is one of a set I am sending to Yavonne as a thank you. Simple yet very beautiful.

My card was a CASE from Stampingaddict.blogspot.com

Chris said...
it's kind of ironic that you ask this question...cuz i have always wondered that myself... so it's your maiden name and the just, well, i would guess cuz SCS is all about you not your fam....which us mothers don't have enough of in our lives...thanks for the memories...>"<

July 23, 2008 8:40 AM

Here is the story of my SCS screen name. Yes, my maiden name was Tieszen pronounced "teasin" like you are playing a joke on someone. My uncle used to have a licence plate that read like this...JSTATZN...I thought it was totally funny so for my SCS name I put the word Just before my Maiden name and then I had Justtieszen. I think it is funny!

I will get your goodies out to you, Happy Stamp Day!

Free Ride SBSC150, 30/30 challenge day 19

Saturday on SCS is a Scrapbook Layout Challenge, you can find the layout (here)

I totally was singing this song as I assembled my page "Free Ride" by Edgar Winter and here is the story...

Every year in August Sioux Falls hosts the Sioux Empire Fair. We have a good friend that works for a local newspaper and she gets free passes to Press Day at the fair. A short talent program, crowning of the fair queen, supper and FREE RIDES are included. We have gone a few times in the past and the kids totally enjoyed it. These photos are from two years ago, we met my BIL and the kids there. Everyone has a great time, how can you not when the rides are FREE?

I am not sure I like the journaling, do you have any ideas for me on how I could change it? The white jumps out so much compared to the rest of the colors on the page.

Got Adhesive?
I am in Jen's 30/30 challenge and out of my fave adhesives so I had to use these photo splits. How do I hate them let me count the ways... I throw them on the floor so they stay off my work area and everyone runs around the house with them stuck on the bottoms of their feet. LOL!! This photo is a simulation, my DD enjoyed playing along.

30/30 challenge Day 18 Faux Stained Glass

Our oldest DD has been in MN this week with the youth group, and she has been missed by all of us. As I was cleaning up my craft area and sorting items I came upon these plastic containers that were purchased from Oriental Trading years ago. The lids are to be painted with glass paint. So I spent a morning with our other DD's making these sun catcher boxes. (I did not find them on Oriental trading anymore, I found one site in UK here is the link if you wish to check out a similar box. Sun catcher Box) If anyone finds a site in the US could you please send me the link in the comments for this post. Thank you.

July Blog Hop with PTI

Edited to upload a photo of the card that I "cannibalized" to make my blog hop card.

Have you ever?
Cannibalized a card to get the product you need to make another?
That is exactly what I had to do tonight to make a card for PTI July Blog Hop. I was so inspired I had to look around once again and find some vellum. For our 10th wedding anniversary we renewed our wedding vows and I made the invitations all 100 plus had this swirl vellum on the front so this is what I used to layer over the Guidelines DP. I found some scraps to stamp the flower on then cut it out.

Below is the card that I used the Vellum off of...

Product list...
PTI Flower Garden Stamp Set
PTI Guidelines DP
PTI Plum pudding ink, ribbon and card stock
SU Old Olive card stock
basic grey buttons
SU silver cord

cb embossing folder swiss dots
white paint pen
nesties scallop rectangle
Palette Noir ink

30/30 challenge day 16 Faux Quilt Mish Mash style

Here I am at day 16 on Jen's 30/30 challenge. I have been cleaning up and purging out some of the craft items I no longer use so that I can purchase some new ones. In the process I want to use up some of my scrap DP. This card was made using Stampin' Up!'s Porcelain Prints that I so dearly love. This card is also a case from Mish Mash, I adore the pink card she made with PTI items it is beautiful.

So thought I was busted on the challenge today when my Step Mom called me with news that she saw some clear stamps for me at a garage sale and if I was interested she would pick them up for me and to have DH swing by the house before he left town. MySpace backgrounds: CoolSpaceTricks.com

MySpace backgrounds: CoolSpaceTricks.com

I just could not say NO to this awesome deal, you will see why below. I sent Jen an email pleading my case with her and in the end she said gifts do not count. Whew, I am still on the 30/30 challenge wagon! Thanks Jen, Thanks Jan and Dad for the awesome stamps and for thinking of me while you were buying up the bargains.

Below is a photo of what my Step Mom found for me over $101.93 in retail value for around $7.00 at a garage sale (none of the items have been open let alone used!) As for my Dad he could not believe the price my Step Mom was telling him these items would cost, sometimes it is better to keep men folk in the dark about this subject would not want any rumors getting around to my DH! LOL!!
So Garage Sale Stamps = PRICELESS!

Seaside 30/30 challenge Day 15

Here in landlocked SD we have to travel to get seaside but if we wish to swim we just walk out the back door. Some friends enjoying a dip with our DD.

Yippee, I am at the half way marker for Jen's 30/30 challenge. I almost had a lapse of control on Wednesday when I saw PTI's Butterfly Kisses for sale on SCS for a great price. No, sadly I don't have this one yet but it is on my list at the top since she has created DP to match the set "Chocolate Remix". You can get a free download of this paper in sample form with this link Chocolate Remix Sample Have to get more item up on the garage sale so I can afford the new things on my wish list and some basics.

Those basics, I always forget to stock up on them. You know me ALWAYS out of my fave Scotch Double Stick Tape. Since the challenge you can add Tombo, glue stick, glue dots, and dimensionals onto my stock up list. There has been some chatter about adhesives in the PTI round 8 swap thread (link in sidebar) with some great tips and advice for different adhesives. By the way want to join us, there is still plenty of time to get signed up for this swap round.

For today's card I used more of my cherished Seaside ribbon.

Don't forget about the Hide and Seek card candy in the previous post, a random winner will be drawn on Monday from the comments left in that post.

TLC178 20,30,40 YIKES I totally did not want to do this challenge because of the triple threat of

color combo Creamy Carmel and Bravo Burgundy

Once I got underway it was very simple and I enjoyed making this card. I did sub colors I had only Cranberry Crisp and Close to Cocoa re-inkers that even came close to the challenge colors. And, I had never used the diaper wipe technique before, I really like how the background turned out.

This is also my day 13 project for Jen's 30/30 challenge you can find out more when you take this posted link. 30/30 challenge

30/30 challenge Day 12 Seaside

I so love this Seaside Ribbon from SU it was hard to use it. One of the supplies I just had to have but won't use. I know I am silly! Well I used it here along with the SAB rub-ons to create this fast card. Love how it turned out and the best part is it can be a masculine card, I don't have many of them and tend not to make them I go more for the frilly girl things. It is refreshing to take a break once in awhile and make a creation that is crisp with clean lines and minimal supplies.

Just a heads up I will be uploading my Bella's into my virtual Garage sale today. Email me if you see something you would enjoy having in your creative stash.

I have made up a quick sample of what a card kit for the swap could look like with the images, dp, ribbon, embellies and punched card stock. So to be considered for one spot in the card kit swap you would need to compile six of the same kit. Just like you were going to swap a card in the card swap except you are not sending a completed card just the components for a card.

Above is the kit before it is packaged with the required elements.

A fun getaway

Many of you know we have been busy the past few days enjoying our family. My Sister took us to the water park on Thursday, the kids had such a wonderful time. The day was beautiful not a cloud in the sky and not so hot that you could not stand it, just beautiful!

Then on the 4th we left for the lake cabin to enjoy some time with my Dad, stepmother, brother and sister's families.

Grandpa helping the kids fish, our DD caught this one.

Sunset on the 4th, it was beautiful!

I hope you were able to enjoy your family also over the Holiday weekend.

Sponge Bob Technique Challenge Sunday

Okay, so we watch so much TV at our house the first thing I thought of with this post was Sponge Bob Square Pants that is where my title came from, LOL!

The flowers and leaves on this card were sponged with PTI Plum Pudding and Spring Moss. I also masked around the focal rectangle and sponged a small border around it, just a light touch for a soft detail.
This card created for SCS SC183

I use lots of sponges when making cards or scrapbook layouts at first it was to create a soft effect around the edges of my card now I use it more for coloring in images and masking backgrounds. I don't like to save them or wash them out I cut them into triangles (one SU sponge will give me 6 good size triangles) when my fingers start to get messy with use I toss them out and start with a fresh one.

So this week I challenge you to use sponging somewhere on your creation, link back to me in the comments for this post by Saturday July 12th and I will draw a random winner for a RAK from Sara's Creative Adventures.

Happy 4th of July

Have a safe and happy 4th I hope you are able to spend some time with your family and enjoy the fireworks. I will be gone for the next few days enjoying time away with our family by the lake, I can't wait to hear the sound of the waves at night and the smell of the smores and cherry pies cooked over the campfire.

It is wonderful to live in SD this time of year, we usually watch the fireworks on our local network station it is amazing. Here is a link to one I found on over on you tube, enjoy!

I have come across an idea that went into my craft file for next year, you can find the link to the project below the photo. Would this not be grand for the picnic table?

Smile

Our DD is the luckiest kid on the block this week thanks to Barb. She was cleaning out her closet and our DD was so happy to get some clothes you could not get the smile off of her face. I think she changed three times in one afternoon and she has her clothes ready to go to Grandpa's for the 4th. On one of the T's we decided to stamp an image from Flower Garden by PTI inspired by Nichole Heady's introduction to the stamp set found here

Supply list...
White T
Palette ink pads from PTI Spring Moss, Plum Pudding, Lavender Moon and Noir
PTI Flower Garden stamp set

sponge

I believe one night when I was asleep this stamp set somehow attached itself to my right hand. True story, LOL!
